SEAMANSHIPDENİZCİLİK
Seamanship skillsDenizcilik becerileri
Mostly learned on the water — but drill the knots until they’re muscle memory.Çoğu suda öğrenilir — ama düğümleri kas hafızasına işleyene kadar çalış.
Essential knots
| Knot | Türkçe | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Bowline | İzbarço | Fixed loop that won't slip and unties under load. Learn first. |
| Figure-eight | Sekiz bağı | Stopper on the end of sheets and halyards. |
| Cleat hitch | Koç boynuzuna volta | Securing dock and halyard lines to a cleat. |
| Clove hitch | Kazık bağı | Quick attach to a post or rail; fenders. |
| Round turn & two half hitches | — | Secure a line to a ring or post under load. |
| Reef (square) knot | Camadan bağı | Joining two ends of equal rope; tying in a reef. |
| Sheet bend | — | Joining two ropes of unequal thickness. |
| Rolling hitch | — | Grips along a line or spar; clears a riding turn on a winch. |
Drill with Animated Knots — muscle memory beats diagrams.
Core boat-handling
- Anchoring — scope ≈ 4–5× depth, set and check the hold, anchor watch.
- Med-mooring (stern-to) — the technique in Turkish/Greek marinas and bays. Genuinely hard; practise it a lot.
- Reefing — early and often. Reef when you first think about it.
- Man overboard — drill it until automatic; know your boat’s method.
- Night sailing & watchkeeping — light recognition, night vision, a rota that keeps everyone rested.
- AIS & collision avoidance — reading CPA/TCPA, when to call a ship on VHF.
